ORTHO + DONTICS = STRAIGHT + TEETH

  • Scope of the specialization of the orthodontic department includes primarily alignment of teeth. “Crooked teeth” as generally known in the jargon, are aligned with various appliances and scientific techniques to harmonize with the adjoining bones and tissues. Treatment in Orthodontics is a treatment of the patient as a whole as it entails overall personality development and general well being of a person.

    Orthodontic department, also co-ordinates with various medical and dental specialties to undertake Maxillofacial surgical treatment. To name a few, patients of Department of Plastic surgery are constantly referred for correction of occlusion. Cleft lip and palate patients in various age groups visit the orthodontic clinic and final treatment objective requires a constant coordination with surgeon, orthodontist and speech pathologist.

  • Patients receive bite plates and similar other appliances for TMJ problems and are referred to department of Orthodontics.
 
  • It is a full-time teaching department for BDS students. In addition, it is also providing teaching for MBBS and nursing undergraduates of MAMC.

  • Orthodontics is an advance treatment approach in dentistry. No other hospital under Govt. of Delhi and Central Govt. health scheme is offering this specialized dental care.

  • Community projects with a sight into Orthodontics are usually carried out with the department of community dentistry.

  • Department of Orthodontics routinely receives new patients from various peripheral centres in Delhi both in Govt. and private set up. Oral diagnosis department is a major source to direct patients to the department of Orthodontics. Follow up patients constitute a major chunk of the OPD.

Recently Orthodontics Department has involved itself in the management of obstructive sleep apnea (type of snoring disorder). Specially designed appliances are fabricated for the patients requiring intervention of this type . OSA patients are not generally walk-in. These are referred generally from Pul Monologist, Cardiologist and similar other Medical Specialists.

OPD patients work commences on all working days from 9.00 A.M. to 1 p.m. In the post lunch session patients are seen only on appointment basis.

In orthodontic department, appliances are broadly under removable and fixed types.
