What is Dental Plaque ? |
Dental Plaque is an aggregate of the microorganisms formed on teeth and other hard surfaces of the mouth. It is found in abundance in people with poor oral hygiene.

Yes, they can be used provided they are used with the tooth brushes. Also, they are more abrasive then the tooth pastes hence should be used with the due care.

Mouth washes are the antibacterial mouth rinses which help in the plaque control. They should not be used routinely unless prescribed. |

In such cases the interdental brushes also known as proxa brushes can be used and a dental consideration should be taken. |

| 14. Scaling makes our teeth loose is it fact or a myth ? |
It is the myth. Scaling only removes the irritant calculus present between the teeth and gums. On the contrary if the calculus if left there, it makes the teeth loose by destroying the underlying supporting bone of the tooth. |

It is the bacterial disease of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth characterized by the loss of the underlying bone of the tooth. |

Mobile teeth, swollen and bleeding gums, pus discharge, foul taste and smell from the mouth.

Yes, in the initial stage the disease is reversible and can be cured but in later stage the disease becomes irreversible and tertiary level care is required.

| 18. Are Diabetic patients are at greater risk of developing these diseases ? |
Yes, diabetic patients are at the greater risk of developing these diseases, if diabetes is uncontrolled, and hence should take the utmost oral hygiene care, but in properly controlled diabetic patients there is no scientific study to show greater risk.

| 19. What is the cause of the post scaling sensitivity ? |
| When calculus is present it recedes the gums and gets deposited over the root surface of the tooth and creates a false cover over them. After scaling the root gets exposed to the environment which is more sensitive than the tooth hence the sensitivity occurs.

| 20. Can this sensitivity be cured ? |
Depending upon the cause, this sensitivity can be cured by the use of desensitizing toothpastes at home and by special and specific treatment at office. It can also go away with time. |
