Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences has just stepped into the glorious 25th year of its journey towards creating the Mecca of dental education all over the nation. It was a path both taxing and exceptionally fulfilling. To honour as well as celebrate this silver jubilee year (2007-2008), several events were organized in the institution. All through this milestone year, several awareness programs were held as a general community health initiative, the most distinguished of which was the Dental Health Mela held from 8th to 13th December, 2007. The Health Mela was the most coveted occasion of the whole year, being held on a much grander scale this time to celebrate these remarkable 25 years. Our institution outdid itself this time in creating mass awareness and educating general public about the importance of dental hygiene by expansive exhibitions, audio-visual presentations and by quizzes for general public.

The first day of Dental Health Mela, on 8th December 2007, was a spectacle to remember. Esteemed Chief Minister of Delhi, Shrimati Shiela Dikshit indebted us by inaugurating the Dental Exhibition. The special invitees to the event were Dr. Yoganand Shastri (the Honourable Health Minister of State), Smt. Tajdar Babbar (MLA) and Dr. Anil Kohli (President DCI). The media sat up and noticed the consistent rise in prestige of this institution and gave it the coverage it truly deserves. Not to forget the special release of our very own 1st day cover by Director General Post Master, late Mr. Raghav Lal, and the special silver jubilee edition of our college souvenir.

The evening of the glorious day was marked by the cultural extravaganza 'MEERA-THE EPITOME OF LOVE & DEVOTION FOR LORD KRISHNA’.

The concept of Ballet on “Meera” was conceived, written and directed by Dr. Anuradha Bali and brought to fruitation by the hard work and months of relentless practice by all participating faculty, paramedical staff and students of MAIDS.

The choreography was professional, full of grace and emotions and performed to perfection by all the members of the “Meera” troupe. The ballet was a tribute to the life of Meerabai and trials and tribulations she faced in her worship of Lord Krishna. Although a princess, Meerabai had renounced all her worldly possessions and family and lived the life of a saint, singing and dancing in temples transcending all barriers of caste and class. This devotion and sacrifice of Meerabai was beautifully translated into dance on stage by some scintillating performance. Needless to say, 'Meera” was a phenomenal success.

The faculty & students were regaled by a hilarious performance by Hasyakavi, Ashok Chakradhar. Painting competition, Just a Minute, and Antakshari were organized on the third day, 10th December, 2007. The show stealer was the MAIDS Parivar Award Ceremony on 11th December, 2007 which put the entire faculty in a jubilant mood!

The day on 12th December 2007 started with the welcome of eminent cardiologist Dr. K. K. Aggarwal who spoke on changing trends in our modern lifestyles affecting our health. The Youth Festival - comprising of inter-college debate, rangoli competition, face painting, singing competition, dance competition, fashion show and the dance party - was celebrated with gusto.

The field of sports was also not left behind and we saw everyone enjoying games like cricket, badminton, carrom, and even 'On the spot games' like banana eating, tug of war, three-legged race, lemon race on the last day, 13th December, 2007.

During these events each and everyone associated with MAIDS came out from their respective departments and rejoiced together like one big family. This togetherness, enthusiasm and sheer hard work exhibited by every member of this family seems to be the mantra behind making MAIDS the world acknowledged center of excellence that it is today.
